Analysing Textual Poems 4

Read the lines from the poem 'Once Upon a Time' and answer the questions
that follow:
But believe me, son.
I want to be what I used to be
when I was like you. I want
to unlearn all these muting things.
Most of all, I want to relearn
how to laugh, for my laugh in the mirror
shows only my teeth like a snake's bare fangs!
1. What does the poet want to be? Pick out expressions from the lines above to
justify your answer.
2. Why are they called 'muting things'?
3. What does the poet want to unlearn and relearn?
4. What confession does the poet make when he says 'my laugh in the mirror
shows only my teeth like a snake's bare fangs!' ?
